Professional Biography

My passion is defending human beings facing criminal charges in  federal, state and juvenile courts, specializing in cannabis, medical marijuana, and cybercrime cases.

I have been a criminal defense lawyer with an office in San Francisco since 1998, and have represented criminal defendants in Superior Courts all over the State of California.  I have defended individuals in the following California counties:  Alameda, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Humboldt, Lake, Los Angeles, Marin, Mendocino, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Orange, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tuolumne, Ventura, and Yolo.  I have also represented defendants in numerous federal courts, such as the Northern District of California (San Francisco and Oakland), the Eastern District of California (Sacramento and Fresno), the Central District of California (Los Angeles), the Southern District of California (San Diego) and the District of Wyoming (Casper).

I have been trained by renowned criminal defense lawyer and jury trial master J. Tony Serra of San Francisco, and share office space with other lawyers at Pier 5 Law Offices, a community of independent sole practioners specializing in aggressive criminal defense.

I am a member of the California State Bar, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the Bar Association of San Francisco, California NORML, NORML Legal Committee, Cannabis Action Network, Americans for Safe Access and the Stanford Alumni Association.

I am a graduate of Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College, which is considered the most prestigious and selective trial advocacy college in America.

I also graduated from Stanford Law School, where I concentrated in the field of criminal defense, and completed advanced courses such as White Collar Crime in Silicon Valley, High Tech Crime, Advanced Criminal Procedure, and Cyberspace Law.

While at Stanford, I worked as a legal researcher for Stanford Law Professor and high tech crime defense lawyer Thomas Nolan in Palo Alto.I also worked as a law clerk for the Federal Public Defender in San Francisco.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Yale College in 1992, a B.A. in Philosophy.
